My Stamp Scheme introduced by India Post in Mumbai

Sealed with a kiss is so passé. Now you can send letters with stamps bearing a picture of your face. The “My Stamp” scheme in Mumbai lets you have your photograph printed on five rupee (10 U.S. cent) stamps. The minimum order a customer can place is for one sheet of 12 stamps. Mumbai General Post Office, which operates under the country’s central post department India Post, started the initiative Saturday and has attracted more than 700 people so far, officials say. The scheme will run until Feb. 11. Mumbai Post Office has hired photographers to take customers’ pictures for the stamps, which carry backdrops such as the Taj Mahal, zodiac signs and characters from the Panchatantra fables. Expansion of Postal Services

The Government has formulated comprehensive working plan for the development, expansion and modernization of postal services. Under this, major activities , as laid out in XII Five Year Plan, include opening of branch Post Offices, setting up of Automatic Mail Processing Centers, development and deployment of Rural ICT solution, deployment of Core Banking, increasing insurance cover, establishment of Parcel and Logistics Post Hubs, up gradation of Speed Post Centers, Human Resource Training to Personnel, construction of Post offices/administrative offices, installation of Solar Power Packs and setting up of Postal Training Centers. The proposed financial allocation for the XII Five Year Plan, in this regard is Rs. 12,000 crore. As for setting up of Speed Post Centres, the erstwhile Centres have been reconstructed in the form of Speed Post Sorting Hubs for operational purposes. INFOSYS, TCS, SIFY ,RELIANCE BAG POSTAL DEPARTMENT'S TECHNOLOGY PROJECTS

The Department of Post (DoP) has issued Letters of Intent (LoIs) to Infosys, TCS, Sify and Reliance Communications Infrastructure for different technology advancement projects. "Department is trying to induct technology in a big way. There are eight RFPs (Request for Proposal) we have floated and issued Letter of Intent in five (projects) to companies which include Infosys, TCS, Sify and Reliance," Secretary (Posts) Manjula Parasher told reporters here. The Department has got approval of Rs 1,877.2 crore to be spend across these projects over period of two years and will seek additional funds when the need arises. "Funds of Rs 1,877.2 crore have been approved. We will go ahead with that. We may need more money because implemented in some of the cases may last over period of six and half to nine years," she said. DoP has issued LoI to Infosys for two projects which are Rural System and Financial Services Integration, Tata Consultancy Services for Change Man...

Postal Services Board has sent the Bonus File to the Hon'ble Minister of Communication & IT for approval. Regarding Enhancement of Bonus ceiling to GDS from Rs. 2500/- to Rs. 3500/- as the Finance has again rejected the proposal, MOC will be taking up the case with Finance Minister itself as per the assurance given to the JCA earlier.
